Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics

This course develops a strong foundation in mathematical reasoning and the critical problem-solving skills essential for further study and everyday life. You will master the core areas of mathematics beginning with Number and Algebra where you will learn to manipulate equations, use graphs, and solve complex logical problems. The curriculum extends to Shape, Space and Measures providing you with the tools to navigate geometry and trigonometry in two and three dimensions. You will also explore Handling Data which enables you to interpret statistics and calculate probabilities to understand risk and trends. By applying these mathematical techniques to a variety of contexts, you will be equipped to use logic and precision to tackle real-world challenges with confidence.

Core Content Areas

The GCSE Mathematics curriculum is a two-year linear course that is assessed across six main topic areas.

1. Number

Focuses on core arithmetic, number properties (primes, factors), fractions, decimals, and percentages.

2. Algebra

Includes algebraic manipulation, solving equations and inequalities, linear and quadratic graphs, and sequences.

3. Ratio, Proportion & Rates of Change

Deals with ratios, direct and inverse proportion, and compound measures like speed and density.

4. Geometry & Measures

Covers properties of shapes, mensuration (area, volume), geometric constructions, and trigonometry.

5. Probability

Explores calculating probabilities for single and combined events, using diagrams like Venn and tree diagrams.

6. Statistics

Focuses on data handling, interpreting charts, and calculating measures of central tendency and spread.

Assessment & Tiers

  • Two Tiers: The qualification is available in two tiers: **Foundation** (grades 1-5) and **Higher** (grades 4-9).
  • Three Papers: Students take three written exam papers. One paper is **non-calculator**, and the other two allow a calculator.
