Edexcel IGCSE Biology

Edexcel IGCSE Biology

This course provides a deep exploration into the complex machinery of life and the diversity of the natural world. You will investigate the fundamental principles of biology by examining the structure and functions of living organisms, ranging from microscopic cell processes to the sophisticated systems of the human body. You will explore the continuity of life through the study of reproduction and genetics where you will learn how traits are inherited and how evolution shapes species. The curriculum also addresses the critical relationship between organisms and their environment, allowing you to analyse ecosystems and the impact of human influence on the planet. By developing your practical skills and scientific understanding, you will be equipped to apply biological concepts to real-world issues and appreciate the intricate balance of life on Earth.

Core Content Areas

The Edexcel IGCSE Biology course is assessed across a number of key topic areas.

Assessment Structure

The Edexcel IGCSE in Biology is a linear qualification, assessed by two written examination papers.

  • Paper 1 (4BI1/01): This paper is 2 hours long and is worth 110 marks. It assesses all course content.
  • Paper 2 (4BI1/02): This paper is 1 hour and 15 minutes long and is worth 50 marks. It assesses all course content and includes questions on practical biology.
  • Both papers are weighted to contribute to the final qualification.
