Edexcel IGCSE Business
This course introduces you to the dynamic world of commercial enterprise and the practicalities of starting and managing a business. You will explore the core functions that drive organizational success including Marketing, Operations, Human Resources, and Finance. You will learn how to identify business opportunities and understand the impact of the external economic environment on decision making. Crucially, you will develop the analytical skills to apply business concepts to real-world case studies and evaluate the effectiveness of different strategies. By mastering these fundamentals, you will be equipped to understand how businesses operate in a global context and make reasoned judgments to solve complex commercial problems.
Core Content Areas
The Edexcel IGCSE Business course is a two-year linear qualification assessed across four main topic areas.
1. Business Activity and the Business Environment
This topic explores business objectives, different types of businesses, business ownership, and the various stakeholders involved.
2. Marketing, People and Operations
Covers the marketing mix, market research, human resources, motivation, production methods, and quality management.
3. Finance
Explores sources of finance, business costs and revenues, break-even analysis, cash flow forecasts, and final accounts.
4. External Influences
Deals with the impact of external factors such as economic conditions, government policies, and globalization on businesses.
Assessment Structure
The Edexcel IGCSE Business qualification is assessed by two written examination papers.
- Paper 1: This is a 1-hour 30-minute written exam worth 80 marks. It includes compulsory questions, including data response and short-answer questions.
- Paper 2: This is a 1-hour 30-minute written exam also worth 80 marks. It consists of compulsory questions with a focus on case studies and extended-response questions.
- Both papers are externally assessed and each accounts for 50% of the total International GCSE grade.
